Though the seedling beds no longer exist because we moved selected plants into new, more formal borders this summer,
I've kept these images of some of the individual blooms. I'll be creating new pages for the three new boarders and beds (one the largest in
the garden to date.
We have several hundred seedling daylilies from our hybridizing. Creating new daylily hybrids has been a hobby
for several years and has produced some beautiful results. Each year we wander through the seedling beds and choose
some of our favorites to move into more prominent positions in the display beds. We also thin the crop by composting
any of the plants that don't measure up to our standards. It all makes for many wonderful days in the garden during the
summer.
The garden beds where the seedlings are grown on to maturity are in the lower gardens, abutting the wood garden, and
in the back of the property between the pool and the end of the hill beds. We have also begun a sunken garden along
one of our stone retaining walls beyond the lower seedling beds. This garden isn't ready for publication but I'm certain
it will be featured on these pages in the near future.
